Beans bonanza..

Here's a whole stack of bean lures i have just finished all at 2.5cm and around about 2g

These little lures have proved really deadly for those small jungle shallow streams, they work very shallow so there perfect for not clipping the bottom in the shallowest of streams and fish absolutely love them. I've adapted these ever so slightly from previous ones by moving the hook position slightly nearer to the back of the lure, when worked through the water the treble kind of drifts back and upwards so it sits just behind the back of the lure waiting for anything to attack from behind.

I just love adding new patterns to this size lure...

  3. Oh those are GREAT! I've tried commercial lures of about the same size or a little bigger but they run out and turn on their sides even with bending the eye. I'm guessing yours are more stable because of the weight of the thick lexan lip. At 2 gms I assume they aren't weighted and are for close in fishing.

  4. Hi Bill,
They are weighted to sink so that they can be let to sink into holes or down to depth etc, but generally if you work them steadily they only dive down to about a foot so are perfect for close in fishing on little streams and brooks. A friend of mine from a lure angling forum had a good day using them recently, you can read his report here http://finessefishing.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/grand-slam.html

    cheers

  5. Matt,
Thanks. I want to use these as inspiration for some trout lures of my own. Also my give a few to my fishing club friends if I can get them tuned.

I'm guessing these are about 8mm thick and the inside weight can't be much more than .5 gms. Hope you don't mind me hitting you up for a little information on these.

  6. Bill, They are around the 8mm mark yes, and i would say the weight was about right too, they are only 2g overall and that includes the split ring and hook too so it might even be less that 0.5g
To be honest I would'nt think the amount of weight will matter that much, i add more or take it away purely for how fast i want them to sink. With something so small, the drag of the braid on the water surface is enough to start bringing them back up so its difficult to keep anything so small at any depth. This is why they are perfect for some of the little streams i fish because they just run 'in the zone' and don't trip the bottom in shallow sections which can fowl the hooks.
One thing I am going to change with some of my next ones though, is the angle of the lip, i noticed on lure from a few batches back that the lip was slightly more angled, this bean actually divers a little deeper which is handy for some deep spots. I want to try different angles with the next ones to give me a variation of lures that will work at a few different depths.

  7. Matt,
Thanks again for all your help. Time to start chopping balsa. One good thing is that my other hobby is building balsa & tissue model airplanes so balsa, wire etc. I'm all set.
